The management of National Wildlife Refuges is slightly different than that of many other protected Federal lands such as Wilderness Areas. They are often managed for the maximum benefit of migratory birds, so this limits many forms of recreation. The system of National Wildlife Refuges is almost 110 years old and is often expanded by land donations. The Finley Wildlife Refuge has two units, I have only been to the Snag Boat Bend Unit. There is approximately 3.0 miles of trails around the 341 acre site. The trails here are often road-like and in some places they are gravel roads. It's by no means a destination by itself, but if you're from the Southern Willamette Valley definitely check it out if you're nearby. Unless you're into birding, in that case it could very well be with a trip. Below is a selection of photos from my walk around Snag Boat Bend.

Directions from Corvallis: Follow Highway 34 one mile east, turn onto Peoria road. Follow for 10 miles. There is a large sign on the right.
